You know, most weeks I write an article, or film a video or share a strategy for growing your rent roll or running your business.
But today, I’m not talking about being a business owner particularly…
I’m talking about being human.
And I’m going to share 3 things you probably don’t know about me.
Okay, deep breath, here we go…
- I’m a MASSIVE introvert
No, I’m not shy.
I’m just an introvert.
This means that I am energised by spending time at home, alone.
It also means that I get really drained when I spend time in big groups of people.
I like the people, of course! But I just get really tired after spending a day full of meetings, or at a conference.
So, if you meet me at a conference, know that I’m having a great time, but the next day I’m gonna need to work from home and talk to NOBODY!
It’s taken me a really long time to embrace my introversion.
In fact, I used to think that you can’t run a successful business if you’re an introvert.
I used to think that I had to be super outgoing, loud and love cold calling in order to be successful.
Turns out, that’s not the case.
You can be an introvert AND be a successful business owner.
In fact, most of the rent roll owners I know are introverts, just like me!
- I’m a vegan
It’s true, I’m one of THOSE people.
Actually, I prefer the term “plant based” – because I just eat plant based foods.
I’m not a stereotypical “tree-hugging” vegan, I just don’t eat animal products.
Why?
Dairy and eggs make me quite unwell…
I’ve never enjoyed red meat or pork…
And one day I just decided to cut out chicken and seafood as well to see how that made me feel.
Turns out, pretty good!
So, usually when people find out I’m vegan, they ask about Matt (my hubby) and what he eats.
Well, he jumped on the plant-based band wagon about 8 months ago and is loving it too!
Up until then, Matt mostly ate plant-based when we were at home, and he would eat a bit of chicken when we went out.
Now, he just eats plants.
He’s a little more flexible than me and doesn’t stress if there’s a bit of egg in his gluten free bread (oh yeah, we both eat gluten free too), where as I will avoid eating something if it’s got egg in it.
For Matt though, he swapped to a plant-based diet because he wanted to improve his sports performance (cycling) and it really worked for him, so he’s a fan.
And the rest of my extended family?
Mum’s vegan…
Dad’s vegetarian…
Both my brothers eat a fairly regular diet…
So if we ever catch up for a coffee and I order an almond flat white, you know why!
- I play the piano
I’ve played the piano since I was a kid, and I still have a digital piano at my home.
I don’t play as often as I would like to, but it’s often the most effective way to de-stress.
My favourite thing to do is to find a song on YouTube (whatever song has been playing in my head for the day) and just to sit at the piano and figure out how to play along.
So, while I’ve never had piano lessons, I had a grandmother who taught me a few basics, and I had a love for playing by ear.
I learnt to read music in high school, but I have to be honest, I rely on my ear much more than I rely on sheet music!
I also play the guitar (thanks Dad for teaching me!) and love to pick up a few other instruments just for the fun of it too!
So that’s it.
Letting you in on my real life.
The side of me that isn’t a business owner.
Now, over to you…
Tell me one thing in the comments below that I wouldn’t know about you!
